Best CO (Carbon Monoxide) Detector & Alarms

Low Pricing, Best Technology, High Accuracy, Long Life, Carbon Monoxide Gas Detector and Transmitter .

Benefits of CO Monitoring:
The very early sign in coal handling/processing plant fire is liberation of gas radicals (CO predominant). The idea is to detect the presence of this CO gas radical for very early fire prevention. By the time smoke is generated and detected it is already too late. A typical CO monitoring system for detection of products of combustion fires or spontaneous combustion of coal fires can warn potential fire two days in advance then flame is present or detected. By installing an effective CO and CH4 monitoring system, coal based power stations can benefit in the following ways:

  • Reduced insurance premiums
  • Better safety to plant and personals
  • Reduced down time
  • Prevention of loss of resources
  • Save time and money.

Why CO monitoring? :
Coal contains moisture which when liberated, coal gets oxidised, generating both heat and carbon monoxide. This heat when builds-up has the potential of creating spontaneous combustion of coal fires.
Coal is extremely friable and can be easily crumbled or pulverised. Further coal also generates coal dust needing extra preventive measures like proper maintenance of stockpiles, guarding against accumulations of coal in the fuel-handling system, compaction of stockpiles, cleaning spills and washing float dust. The most effective programme for fire-prevention would be to have Carbon Monoxide Monitoring and Control System
CO Monitoring Installation Aspects:
There will always be some safe background CO levels in coal handling or processing plants under normal operating conditions. These CO levels will rise during coal loading, handling and will again settle to normal levels once loading is finished and ventilation fans are running. It is important to find out the normal background CO levels by installing CO data-loggers and observing the CO generation trends under normal operating conditions of the plant. A typical CO level of 50 ppm of CO is normally present in background levels when coal is being handled, moved or transported. Based on these normal background CO levels the sizing/selection of the CO system (range etc) and alarm set points need to be undertaken.

Location of Sensors:
In general, it is wise practice to locate an adequate number of sensors at strategic locations based on knowledge of the potentials for ignition. When considering belt fires, sensors should be located in close proximity to drives, tail pieces, and main rollers.
When coal is the issue, any location where accumulation of coal dust or bulk quantities is likely or expected should be considered. These include belt transfers, crushers, dust collection systems, and storage bins (silos, bunkers, etc.).
System Approach:
A typical system may consist of number of CO (range: 0-300, 500 or upto 1000 ppm) and or CH4 (range: 0-100% LEL) gas sensor/transmitters installed remotely at strategic potentially risky areas. The 4-20 mA output coming from these sensor/transmitters can be connected to a multi-channel gas controller which can handle from 2 to upto 96 remote sensor/transmitters. When CO concentration levels rise beyond the set limit (say above 100 ppm, depending on safe background levels), the built in relay contacts will automatically generate audio-visual alarm for plant supervisor to take corrective measure (ventilation fans, mains shut-off etc).

Oxygen (O2) Gas Detector

Oxygen (O2) gas detectors are used for or the detection of oxygen in rooms where changes of the oxygen concentration are possible, such as laboratories, hospitals and food process industries etc.

H2 ARB2 sesnor

Alarm limits for decreasing concentration of gas is set to 18-19% Vol.

Other reasons why oxygen levels can fall are among others:

  • Combustion of something which consumes oxygen
  • Corrosion of something that reduces the oxygen concentration
  • Oxygen consumption due to breathing in dense areas.

Problems usually arise in confined spaces such as tanks, tunnels, etc.

Oil- and gas industry

The normally closed spaces like tanks, containers, pontoons, etc..
corrosion may have contributed to making oxygen levels drop to low values.

A worker entering such an area may die immediately.

Therefore, it is important to first check the oxygen concentration in the compartment. In some cases, other gases may be present, both toxic and explosive. Therefore it may be necessary to use a portable instrument or VOC Gas type online monitoring sensor transmitter that measures several gases at the same time.

Before stepping into, for example, a tank you should check the oxygen concentration in the tank with a portable gas detector or VOC gas detector. Continue reading “Oxygen (O2) Gas Detector”

Methane (CH4) Gas Detector

MC2 sensor

Methane gas is a combustible gas with chemical formula CH4.

Methane (CH4) gas detector is also named as Natural gas detector.

Methane (CH4) gas detector is used to detect Methane gas.

Methane (CH4) gas detector are used in applications such as  Boiler room, Heating room, Kitchen in Hotels or Apartments,  Laboratories and Tunnels

Methane gas is an odourless gas, probably the most abundant
organic compound on earth.

Methane (CH4) gas is an extremely flammable gas.

When Methane (CH4) gas is sold commercially it is usually mixed with small amounts of foul-smelling Sulphur compounds for easier detection of leaks.

Methane (CH4) gas is also known as swamp gas, since Methane (CH4) gas is formed during decomposition of organic matter in oxygen-deficient environments, such as the bottom of a swamp.

Methane (CH4) gas is a greenhouse gas and emissions, primarily from agriculture is considered a contributing factor to the enhanced greenhouse effect.

The relative abundance of Methane (CH4) gas makes it an attractive fuel.

However, since it is a gas at normal conditions, Methane (CH4) gas is difficult to transport from its source.

Sensor coverage for Methane (CH4) gas detector is 35-40 m2 (recommended).

Methane (CH4) gas is lighter than air, mounting height for Methane (CH4) gas detector is 0.2 meter below ceiling.

Installation guidelines (FAQ) for Carbon Monoxide (CO) gas detectors in underground garages, parking houses and tunnels.

What are the mounting heights for CO gas detectors?

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO) gas has a slightly lower density than air. Recommended mounting height for Carbon Monoxide (CO) gas detector is 1.5 m above the floor.
  • According in garages are concentrations expected less 1%VOL and because of thermal an convection of gas the spreading is at whole area.

CO Gas Sensor

How many CO gas detectors are needed in a stationary installation?

  • There may exist some consultants, some local regulations or some country regulations, however, there are no absolute rules in determining the number of gas detectors and gas detectors location.
    (EN50545 CO 400m²).
  • The number of gas detectors are to be decided from case to case depending on the situation of the location you want to detect and monitor.
  • There are recommendations-guidelines (rule of thumbs).

One gas detector per 400 m2 (Coverage Area: 465 m2 to
930 m2 “Ideal Conditions” assumed using New Gas-DO-300-D) (i.e. one CO gas detector per 400 m2), plus additional gas detectors at the locations where gas leakage is likely to occur, preferably no farther than 1.5 meter (Mount at a height of 1.5 – 1.8 m above floor) where gas leakage is likely to occur.

What are the measuring ppm ranges for pre-alarm and warning alarm for  CO gas detectors?

CO detectors alarm levels:

  • Pre-alarm: 25 ppm.
  • Warning alarm: 35 ppm.
  • Fire alarm: 200 ppm

Measuring Range:0-300 ppm, Model no:GAS-CO-300-D

What is the gas sensor (cell) life time for CO gas detectors?

  • CO gas sensor (cell) life expectancy is 6-10 years, normal operation environment.
  • Fully sealed sensor cell, Gel type electrolyte not liquid type electrolyte with hydrophobic filter
  • If gas sensor (cell) is intensively exposed for fumes (gas) the life time is shorter.
  • If gas sensor (cell) is less exposed for fumes (gas) the life time can be longer.
Gas Sensor With Display Version
Gas Sensor With Display Version

Are the gas detectors needed to be re-calibrated?

  • The CO gas detectors are pre-calibrated before delivery.
  • The CO gas detectors are recommended to be re-calibrated on site or in-house once a year.

What to do when life time of gas sensor (cell) exceeded the expected life time ?

There are some different alternative choices, for examples:

  • New gas sensor (cell) can be ordered with re-calibration of the new gas sensor (cell) on existing PCB on site. For this alternative, the re-calibration instructions are needed to be followed very carefully. Recommended to be done of trained technicians.
  • Existing PCB can be returned to ALVI Group OR MSR and new sensor (cell) can be ordered.
  • The existing PCB can be factory pre-calibrated with the new sensor (cell).
  • New factory pre-calibrated gas sensor (cell) and PCB can be ordered.
  • Then the installer easily replace the existing gas sensor (cell) and PCB with the new factory pre-calibrated gas sensor (cell) and pcb. This is the easiest way of all above examples.
  • The exchangeable sensor transmitter cartridge is our new concept to re-look on the Gas sensor and we are pleased to introduce Our most popular, most miniaturized exchangeable Carbon Monoxide (CO) sensor cartridge with cutting edge German Technology.

Ethylene (C2H4) Gas Detector for Fruit Ripening Application

What is Ethylene(C2H4)?

  • Ethylene (C2H4) is a colorless gas which is highly flammable with a Lower Explosive Limit of 2.7% in air.
  • Measuring range: 20-2000 PPM, 0-200 PPM, 0-100% LEL C2H4 with Semiconductor and Electrochemical Sensing Technology
  • Studies have indicated a low toxicity of ethylene and no risk to human health has been identified. It is naturally occurring, but it can also occur as a result of combustion and is manufactured by industrial processes from Methane and petroleum.
  • It has a slight ‘musky, sweet’ odour. Some fruit will produce C2H4 as ripening begins. Apples and pears are examples of fruit that produce ethylene with ripening. It is responsible for the changes in texture, softening, colour, and other processes involved in ripening.

Ethylene TWA limit

Where is Ethylene (C2H4) Used?

C2H4 is widely used in the chemical industry. Polyethylenes of various density and melt flow account for more than 50% of world Ethylene demand. The primary use of polyethylene is in:

  • film applications for packaging, carrier bags and trash liners.
  • injection moulding
  • pipe extrusion
  • wire, cable sheathing and insulation,
  • extrusion coating of paper and cardboard.

IMG_20170405_133050716H2 ARB2 sesnor

C2H4 is the starting material for the preparation of a number of two-carbon compounds including Ethanol, Ethylene Oxide or converted Ethylene Glycol for antifreeze and Polyester fibres and films and Vinyl Chloride (converted to PVC). In addition to these compounds, ethylene and Benzene combine to form ethylbenzene, which is dehydrogenated to Styrene for use in the production of plastics and synthetic rubbers.
